I found the comment section in this article particularly interesting, especially this comment by BWTrainer: And push your politicians to recognize the true cost of our current farming practices. If the price of fossil-fuel intensive farm machinery, pesticides, and food distribution, and the full extent of water and air pollution remediation, were included in the price at the store, youd very quickly see a shift in eating patterns. I believe this to be very true and its a point that many people are overlooking - an example of an inconvenient truth arising from the tendency our governments have to think short-term, not long-term. (Could that be because our politicians are only elected for short terms?.... but I digress.....) The cheap food you can get at large box stores will end up costing plenty in the long run, after the clean up is done - if it can be done. So please dont tell me you think its really nice that we are environmentally responsible, humane farmers, but you cant afford to buy what we grow because you can get it so much cheaper at Costco. We will all pay now or pay later. That being said, I am grateful that we personally are lucky enough to have so many people supporting us who do understand the true cost of food and who do appreciate what were doing on our farm. In spite of what this article implies, I think that most of our customers feel like they are on a friendly footing with us and value their connection to our farm. At least I hope so.
