I found this on another website...I took a lot of it out because there was a lot of opinion in the article, but you cant argue the numbers. : Let me give a quick bio, so you know where this is coming from. Im a white male, in my 40s, a former Marine Sergeant with combat experience. Im also a skeptic on the validity of much of “Social Justice Theory.” On paper, Im exactly who you would expect to support the police. I should be their natural ally. Well, just how risky IS a cops job? Is it truly a “war zone” out there? There are about 780,000 cops in the U.S. In 2013, there were 33 officers fatally shot. Btw, thats the lowest since 1887. A 125 year low. Not exactly an escalating danger is it? That breaks down to 4.2 cops shot to death per 100,000 cops. here are other professions to compare (fatalities per 100,000): Fisherman: 141.7 Pilots: 87.8 Loggers: 82.3 Iron and Steel workers: 61.0 Refuse collectors: 41.8 Farmers and Ranchers: 37.1 Power lineman: 34.9 Roofers: 33.9 Drivers: 27.1 Agriculture workers: 21.7 Cops: 4.2 Yeah. The “average person cannot comprehend the risks”? Um, apparently the average person would have trouble comprehending a job with risks as low as cops. People killed by cops in 2013 - 315 850% times more likely to kill somebody than to be killed. A pool of 316 million American civilians fatally shot 33 cops. A pool of 780 thousand American cops fatally shot 315 civilians. Another way of looking at it is to say that cops killed 40 people per 100,000 cops. While civilians killed .01 cops per 100,000 civilians. The average cop is 4000 times more fatally dangerous than the average civilian. Statistically, you are not in danger from us. You are not under attack from us. We are under attack from you.
