I get so mad when I hear mothers judging other mothers. It makes me MAD! HOPPING MAD! I have a friend that breastfed her son well beyond the age of 2, BECAUSE IT WORKED FOR THEM. I have a friend that gave her child a cell phone at the age of 5, BECAUSE IT WORKED FOR THEM. I have a friend that let her child watch PG-13 movies when the child was 4, BECAUSE IT WORKED FOR THEM. I let my child wear makeup in public, BECAUSE IT WORKS FOR US. I have a friend that lets her child drink caffeinated beverages, BECAUSE IT WORKS FOR THEM. I have a friend that never yells at her child and attempts to reason with her child, BECAUSE IT WORKS FOR THEM. I beg the women out there; before you utter the phrase “That’s not appropriate.” remember that it is not YOUR child. What is appropriate for YOUR child and YOUR family may not be for another. Good parents make choices for their children based on their own beliefs and experiences. When we make active decisions for our children we have done them a service, do NOT assume that because I made a decision you would not have that it didn’t require careful thought and even research/conversation. Also let us not forget that we are not each raising one child, we as a whole are raising a generation. Perhaps it’s time we raise a generation to be MORE respectful and LESS judgmental of their differences.
