I get the strong impression that professional sports are virtually free from racial bias. Players are judged by everyone based on their production. I never hear or perceive any bias in sports journalism. (And these days, by bias I mostly mean insulting racist bias in favor of minorities.) Im thinking that in sports like football, basketball, and (to a somewhat lessor degree) baseball, that black players are so proportionally over-represented, despite the huge commercial pressures to win, that there can be no doubt the rosters are based on merit and nothing else (neither discrimination or affirmative action.) (The whys of the racial skews are really irrelevant to this outcome. Ive heard a number of theories, and there may be several reasons at play, but that is irrelevant to the merit standard.) It is frankly deeply refreshing. Whereas we are constantly being bombarded by racialism driven by the left, its nice to observe a huge industry that demonstrates we can all get along just fine with our racial diversity--it fades into the background as non-essential differences in appearance, names, manner of speech, and other such minor differences, simply adding color and interest to the proceedings. And as a footnote, notice how much more quickly racial fairness spread throughout sport after the fall of barriers to entry, compared to the average level of tolerance and acceptance in society at large--just more evidence that a fully free economy is the best equalizer.
