I go to as many board meetings that I can make and I suggest those that can do the same. I was at the work session prior to the meeting this week. Taking Facebook down was not discussed or put on the agenda. The agenda was amended at the meeting this week to add restricting the ability to post to the page. I do want to point out that one current board member did vote against the restricting of the facebook page, thank you Bonnie Leiss. And Rob Wilson did speak up on the residents behalf and warned the board that this would be a bad move and that he felt the residents as a whole would oppose the move. It was posed to the board that there would be liability issues allowing people to post openly, either endorsing products that the HOA would also appear to endorse, as well as possible libelous/slanderous actions. All of this is predicated on a fear of lawsuit. Any casual online search will show there is no precedence set in law for this specific circumstance (let alone I couldnt even find one filed against an HOA regarding an HOA managed facebook page). Ultimately it is up to us as residents to voice our opinion at the annual meeting. And in my opinion, by voting Rob Wilson onto the board.
