I go to bed hanging my head low...depression is seeping in because I know I am being told lies: Dear Reynoldsburg families and community members, As we begin the third week of the teachers strike, I would like to acknowledge those who have put children first, making it possible for us to provide a safe and productive learning environment for our students while teachers withhold their services. (Our children are not safe, there are subs sleeping and others manhandling while others are yelling...this is not a safe environment for our children!!!) Since the first day of the strike, the number of qualified teachers in our classrooms has steadily increased to about 250, including our own teachers who have returned to work, licensed contracted staff and substitute teachers who daily put their own comfort aside to come to the aide of our children. I also am grateful to the retired central Ohio administrators who are lending their calm expertise as we navigate these waters. (Im sorry my childs school normally has 23 teachers and you think 11 is sufficient...again an unsafe environment) The dedication of Reynoldsburg’s administrative and support staff - including principals, bus drivers, secretaries, paraprofessionals, custodians and cooks – shines every day, but seems especially bright during these difficult times. Our district is fortunate to have wonderful support and administrative staff. (I believe in Mr Bennett he is an amazing principal...Dr Manzola well, Ill just leave it at that) To the parent volunteers, please know that you have made our children’s days a little easier with your familiar, caring faces and helpful hands. It was especially gratifying last weekend to know that the Marching Pride achieved the top rating at competition with your support and this weekend to know that our high school students could enjoy Homecoming traditions. (Thank you parents!!! This is one point she actually got right!!!) I have a few updates to share with you about our progress. First, the board’s negotiating team will return to court mediation this week. Please know that the board’s team remains dedicated to reaching an agreement with the union that duly recognizes our great teachers and can be financially sustained by our community. Until teachers end the strike, we are committed to keeping schools open for our children. (So glad you were able to make your game in Maryland when you should have been here making compromises...oh my bad Im pretty sure you said you werent budeging from YOUR standpoint...you dont even care what the other board members have to say) Along those lines, there are a few things you should know: Grading periods I will recommend to the board of education that we combine the first and second grading period this year. This will allow more time for students to adjust to new online learning. Students’ grades and participation over the past two weeks will count, but will be weighted appropriately with future activities. I have heard some students are worried about their initial assessments in online courses, and want to assure you and them that many of the online products we use or have recently purchased are designed to adjust to students’ learning needs. Early assessments inform future activities and will not negatively affect students’ grades. Grade cards, and IEP progress reports, would be issued in January. (Isnt that convenient for you...but in the meantime our children suffer) I want to go HOME but Im not in any position to do so!!! Im mad, sad, disgusted and appalled...I just want this to end but I dont want her to win!!!!
