I got destroyed today in the Classic with Sunny Delight. I needed - TopicsExpress

I got destroyed today in the Classic with Sunny Delight. I needed a C plus or better to pass the class. Ended up with a Sunny D minus. It was basically the complete opposite of a delight. Also, it was raining and cloudy last night. Really, things werent looking so hot for the sun god. Heard Elspeth was even considering hitting up Tamiyo to try to take over the highly coveted Moons Champion position that was opening up. Just hearsay, really. Complete rumor at this point. Still, speculation abounded that things maybe werent quite as peachy keen as they seemed in the great gas giant in the sky. Sadly my own personal Sunny D. (Sunny disposition, for those not in the know. I think abbreviating Disposition as D is pretty standard at this point, but you never know) wasnt enough to carry me past this dark spot, despite an otherwise bright and oft-illumined history with the deck. I couldnt get over my failure. It ate at me inside until I broke. Like any protagonist who is faced with a realization that everything they knew was wrong, I turned dark. I gave up the light. I embraced my inner demons. However, despite the turmoil raging within, despite the questions I couldnt answer, I didnt give up on Heliod. I never gave up on Heliod. Hear that, Heliod? I have not given up on you. You might be my first play on turn 4 when Im facing down lethal. I might yell out obscenities directed at you in regards to how utterly useless you are, but know that you still have a special place in my heart (and if you could, please rise in value. I have 30 copies of you on MODO Im desperately trying to get something out of). In fact, I may never give you up. I may never let you down. Theres still a possibility I tell a lie and desert you, though. Cant rule it out. As for Elspeth, on the other hand? Its not the same. Im like 3 clicks and a mouse spin from ditching you. Get your ass back to being the Suns Champion. Your work isnt done. Stop trying to moonwalk. You suck at it. Also, has anyone ever told you that you look like a young Justin Beiber? Because you do. Thats just not right. Youre a planeswalker, not a pop star. Start churning out tokens and destroying creatures with an oddly specific and seemingly arbitrary level of power and toughness. Do your job. As I wallowed in the pit of my own self-doubt and confusion, a single moment of clarity came to me. Maybe going dark was the only way to solve my problems. Maybe there was simply no other way to go about it. Maybe my change was for the better, not the worse. I grabbed Heliod and began furiously brewing. Brows were furrowed. Eyes were widened. Nostrils? Flaring. It wasnt long until I had figured it out. No more of this UWR Captain America crap. Heliod was done fighting the forces of evil in the world. Maybe Heliod was the real evil after all. It was time for Heliod to do his own thing. It was time for Heliod to go dark. Without further adieu (since you have already paid your adues. Ahem. Ahem. Thank you very much!), I present to you a deck of many names. Some call it Sunny D: Black Cherry. Others: Black Hole Sun God. Some yet, and these are the most dastardly, would refer to it as BWR Devotion Midrange. 3 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx 4 Blood Crypt 2 Godless Shrine 4 Sacred Foundry 4 Temple of Triumph 4 Temple of Silence 4 Plains 2 Mountain 4 Chained to the Rocks 4 Soldier of the Pantheon 4 Precinct Captain 2 Dreadbore 2 Mizzium Mortars 4 Boros Reckoner 2 Spear of Heliod 3 Heliod, God of the Sun 4 Blood Baron of Vizkopa 2 Elspeth, Suns Champion 2 Angel of Serenity SB: 3 Thoughtseize 1 Pithing Needle 1 Wear/Tear 2 Mizzium Mortars 2 Dreadbore 1 Sin Collector 1 Slaughter Games 2 Assemble the Legion 2 Rakdos Return Some say that the two 8 man events I have won on Magic Online with the deck is the best this bad brew is gonna be able to boast, but I hope they are wrong. I hope that isnt this Black Suns zenith, but that there are many more wins to come. Sunny Delight: Black Cherry, coming soon to a tournament near you.
