I got stuck behind one of the three road drawbridges in Port - TopicsExpress

I got stuck behind one of the three road drawbridges in Port Huron. And I thought who pays for these? I knew who paid for the old Zilwaukee Bridge, taxpayers, but I could see why, freighters used it, and that was good for our economy, as Michigan has four of the Great Lakes and the freighters have been good for Michigan and also draw in tourists in Port Huron & Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. But the three drawbridges in Port Huron, do not have freighters going up and down the river, as it is too narrow and short a river way. So the bridges serve to allow the boats that have high masts or are large yachts. They do look pretty, and they do bring in some money during boat week. But I wonder if the boat owners pay their fair share. This article may help explain, though you can only get the abstract for free. thetimesherald/article/20130325/NEWS01/303250018/State-would-pay-tab-drawbridges
