I guess I should introduce myself. I have a degree in linguistics - TopicsExpress

I guess I should introduce myself. I have a degree in linguistics and worked as an academic linguist at the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education for over a decade. My areas of speciality were: language acquisition, language change, reversing language shift, community language planning and sociolinguistics. Our students were exclusively Indigenous Australians, from the mainland and Torres Strait, who were (and still are!) actively involved in own language work. Australia had, before Europeans arrived) more than 200 languages. Many are now lost and only a tiny fraction are still flourishing. I no longer work as a linguist, having made a career change to writer, but my interest in language and linguistics will be with me the rest of my life.
