I had a conversation with a family friend today which I feel I - TopicsExpress

I had a conversation with a family friend today which I feel I need to address on a broader level, as I am an advocate for a loved one that has suicidal tendencies. We are Christians. This family friend told me that is good that my family has our Faith. And I agreed. I then said that she, my loved one with the mental illness, also has her faith and that Faith keeps her going. The lady says, "Really?", I tell her yes and she says "Really?" again. The public needs to know that Christians with mental illness can have suicidal moments. There are soooo many misconceptions on suicide and Christians and sin. When my loved one is at her lowest she is not thinking straight and that can be with anyone with a mental illness. I tell my precious loved one that God provides for those that are ill just like he provides for those that have cerebral palsey, down syndrome, etc. This is NOT a debate on religion. I am just advocating. I was surprised that such and intelligent woman acted with that response and I thought this needed to be addressed.
