I had a discussion with someone yesterday on the subject of Can metal be motivating? This person was not a metal head, and the impression of those outside our community is that metal is anything but motivating. Thats hardly the case. There were numerous bands I could point to as examples, but I only mentioned Judas Priest as one of the ultimate, and best example, of motivating band. Youll be hard pressed to find a Priest tune thats not aggressive and optimistic in a bad ass way. In fact, Halfords lyrics are the definitive example of Metalosophy. Halford doesnt just say, Be positive. Not at all. He does it far more creatively: Pounding the world like a battering ram Forging the furnace for the final grand slam Chopping away at the source soon the course will be done Leaving a trail of destruction thats second to none Halford uses the word destruction, but he doesnt mean it in a literal sense. Its figurative language to describe how thorough the triumph will be. For me, as a metal head, thats inspiring as hell! Whats one metal motivating lyric thats kicked your ass?
