I had a young waitress today who confessed that she had became a vegetarian. Almost vegan she said. I asked her how long she had been one and she said four years. She said she felt much better about herself. I told her that I will be one forty years this Thanksgiving. She became overcome with excitement. She asked why did you do it? I told her the story. The last time I remember eating meat intentionally was Thanksgiving day 1974 at my sister Marthas and brother Steves Fraziers house. I enjoyed it and gave thanks! About six months later I was eating with a friend in college. We were in a cafeteria on Broadway Knoxville, tn. We ate together often. He asked me. Are you a vegetarian? I started to take offence thinking he was questioning my faith. He said dont get upset. A vegetarian does not eat meat and as long as we have been eating together, you have never ordered it. I thought back to That Thanksgiving and realized he was right. I said. I GUESS I am! So this Thanksgiving I will eat vegetables and give thanks as you enjoy your luscious meat and give thanks.
