I had an amazing thing happen to me on Wednesday, August 27th, 2014. I want to share this event with all of you, my “friends.” Joel and I owned a restaurant in Hollister, California for six years from 2001-2007 called, Maverick BBQ. The restaurant was housed in an old train station, down a lightly trafficked street, in a not so visible location. During our time there, we met and made many friends, many of them customers who came in to eat and socialize with us. Rob, the gentlemen in the wheelchair, used to come in at least twice a week and order either a Ribeye steak cooked rare, or a Full Rack Rib dinner. I’m sure he liked the food, but I believe he also came to the restaurant because he enjoyed our company. Fast forward 14 years. Last year 2013, Joel and I opened a restaurant in Eagle, Idaho called the Bodacious Pig. Since selling our restaurant in 2007 and moving to Idaho, we hadn’t seen Rob in six years, until last year, when he drove up to Idaho from California to check out our new place, eat, and socialize. I was great seeing him again! However, since we had seen him last, he’d experienced some serious health issues, which resulted in a partial leg amputation and a wheelchair. Last year during his visit he “liked” our Bodacious Pig Facebook page and through the Page he was able to keep in contact with us and stay abreast to current events at the PIG. On Tuesday, August 26th, without notice, Rob showed up at the restaurant again for a visit. This was a surprise, because he lives in California! His health was still a concern, with him experiencing issues in his other leg now. Joel and I visited with him for a while on Tuesday, and then I invited him to eat lunch with me on Wednesday at 2:00. Before our lunch date, I prayed and asked God to give me the courage to share my faith with Rob and find out if he was “saved by the blood of Jesus.” During our lunch time together, I asked Rob if he was SAVED. He said, “No.” I explained to him that I didn’t want to pry, but that I wanted to share my faith with him. He said, “Okay,” so I told him about my salvation story. I got saved when I was 17. Darlene Brasch, my High School volleyball coach, led me to Christ on our drive home to Oak Harbor, Washington from La Grande, Oregon after volleyball camp. It was about 10:30 at night and she prayed the sinners prayer with me in the parking lot of a gas station. She had been sharing Christ with me for a year up until that night, and in her words, she didn’t want to let another day go by without knowing where I would spend eternity, and without the presence of God in my life. My life has never been the same. Thank You! I believe that God puts people in our lives for a reason, and like Darlene, we need to be willing ask the hard questions and share our faith. On Wednesday, after I shared my story with Rob, I asked him if he wanted Jesus in his life too. He said, “Yes!” I called my church and asked if a pastor would come and pray for and with Rob. They called Jordan Verner, who just happened to be driving by the Bodacious Pig. Jordan showed up within five minutes. Jordan shared his faith with Rob and answered many of Rob’s questions. On Wednesday, at about 3:30, in the dining room of BP, Jordan and I held Rob’s hand, while Jordan led him to Christ. Rob IS saved. Thank you, Jesus! This is a picture of Jordan talking to Rob before his salvation. These are the flowers that Rob sent me on Thursday, after he arrived back home to California. God is Good. All.The.Time.
