I had the great fortune to study with Mr. Frank from 2000-2003, at Yale, and he was wonderful enough to continue to teach me privately, until 2005. I will miss him dearly, as he was, without a doubt, the strongest and most inspirational influence on my musical life. So much of what he taught me, and his other students, is difficult to put into words, as it really had to be experienced, to be understood. A strange sort of magic, as many times, I would swear that just having him sing along with me, or having him demonstrate a phrase, would transform my playing (if only for 5 minutes!) Such a loving, kind, and caring man, to his students: I showed up at a lesson once, with dark circles under my eyes, tired and stressed from various things in life. He noticed immediately, put his hand on my cheek and asked if I was okay, and told me I was working too hard. I have funny memories of him as well, including the very earnest and interested face his would make during piano seminar; he would sit and take dedicated notes during the students mini lectures, and always be very interested, even if the presentation was not that stellar! Most of us enjoyed watching him during these times :) I loved him dearly, as everyone did. My heart goes out to Pamela, and those closest to him.
