I had the lay the ban hammer down pretty hard yesterday. I think Ive only ever banned a handful of people from this page, mostly spam bots, and two legit nut jobs. But theres a few things I wont tolerate around here, and it all goes down to respect. Guess what? I have a boyfriend. And yeah, Im gonna post about him from time to time. This is my public page, so you guys are spared some of the more gushy details of my life, but seeing as he is a fellow professional nerd, I like to promote his work, as he does mine, and I figured some of you peeps would like to see us all decked out doing a rad thing out in this cool town. Most of you were. Some of you decided to be jerks about it. I dont get the mentality of insulting the person I am with / love / plan to spend the rest of my days with. What do you hope to gain by it? That Im going to see that, holy gosh! this random guy on the internet IS right! The love of my life, the person who makes me laugh, has been my rock, who is my equal in this crazy journey that is life isnt good enough for me - because some guy I have *never* met on the Internet says so? It doesnt work that way. In fact, it just makes the person you are talking to think you are a crappy person and want nothing to do with you. I get it sucks to be lonely. I was there for three years. But there is a large amount of people who dwell within the fan community that have a problem with creating fictitious relationships with people in their heads. They think because we interact on a social platform they are entitled to my time and (not just in my case, I have witnessed this countless times across social media with my fellow lady nerds) that these people either think we should be on pedestals and *no one* is good enough for us, or they secretly covet us for their own and do that thing where we flag as nice guy, where they wait in the wings, offering platitudes in hopes of garnering our attention. Its not healthy. It certainly doesnt work. And 9/10 times these people get dismissed with CREEPER or NECKBEARD statements. I could easily dismissed all those comments with such a statement - but I dont think that is productive and I am trying to understand that deep down, these people are just hurting, alone, and probably unaware of how interactions with people really work. So just keep that in mind next time you see me post about my beau,or him in a photo. Making negative remarks isnt going to score you anything but my disdain and me bringing your name up among the secret social web of cosplay ladies where we sit around sew and swap stories of all the horrible things we deal with on the Internet.
