I had the lumpectomy on the left breast this morning. We had to be at the hospital at 5:45 so it has been a long day. They took me to radiology first where they inserted the radioactive dye. The doctor came in and said I am here to hurt you, not going to lie and let me tell you, he didnt lie. He had to give me 4 shots around the nipple. The needle was small and was just a little pinch going in but then you would hear a pop as the dye was shot and holy crappola that pain was intense!! Lucky for me he had it all lined up ready to go and did it all in about a minute or two. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain and I would say on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being high, the pain was a 10. After that the rest was a piece of cake. I went from radiology to the Breast Cancer Center at the hospital and they inserted needles 2 more times, the last one with novacaine, where they threaded a piece of wire to the spots where the doctor needed to go for the surgery. Dale said I was in surgery for about an hour and a half. The surgeon took out the lymph node and more tissue in the surrounding area of where the cancer was found. Pathology did a quick freeze test of the node and it was negative for cancer. Of course we will have to wait for the full pathology test to confirm that there is no cancer, probably next Tuesday. We have learned not to assume anything and pray for the best. We pray it all comes back negative so we can just deal with the lung cancer until I am done with chemo. After chemo we will still more than likely do radiation on the breast, around 36 treatments. One step, one day at a time. Keep praying my friends, God is hearing our prayers! BELIEVE!!!
