I had to perform an emergency snapperectomy at work today. This large snapping turtle managed to fall into a deep concrete pit which houses the valve which fills our irrigation lake. I started climbing down the ladder to shut the valve, looked down, and was rather surprised to see this befuddled reptile looking up at me. He/she was very lucky to have fallen into the water at the bottom rather than hitting the large pipe across the center and probably getting smashed. Anyway, l was able to sweep the errant 25 lb. mass of hissing hostility into a large garbage can (first pic), and then we hoisted it to freedom. In the subsequent pictures, it is released, heads for the lake, jumps in, and then climbs back out as soon as we stepped away. The singlemindedness of these things is sometimes uncanny.
