I hate notifications. There are a few time-sensitive items that I allow (calendar appointments, text messages, to-do items, task completion notifications, etc.), but I always disable notifications for just about everything else. Email, Facebook, Twitter, GameCenter, all games, those are not allowed to show notifications anywhere other than the Notification screen. No banners, no badges, no sounds, nothing. I dont want my phone lighting up or making noise unless it is urgent. Now that OS X Yosemite and iOS share similar Notification Center features and settings, its been great turning off notifications on my MacBook Pro. I also disable all notifications on my Windows machine at work. Nothing I hate more than seeing Outlooks New Mail badge popup over my work.
