I hate to say this, but we have ourselves to blame for the shutdown. It was us, we the people, who put the crooks in charge of the cookie jar. Congress votes on their own pay, own benefits (salary for life?!), own cushy retirement, own perks, get paid when the government shuts down (yes, they set that up themselves), and even they make laws to protect them from prosecution from wrong doing. It is time they answered to US! Anything they want (pay increases, benefit changes, etc) should be subject to a popular vote by the people at election time!
