I have a basic question concerning the syllabus of Statistical Mechanics (Equilibrium) of most Indian Universities both at the UG as well as in the PG level. The students spend most of the time towards counting the microstates and then finding the DOS from the semiclassical approach. The time when they realized...that they r dealing with quantum particles in classical (or semiclassical ) phase space...and when their attentions r drawn towards density matrix....their semester is about to be over and Ising Model is still left to be taught. I am not an expert in this field..but I welcome suggestions regarding how one has to approach towards this wonderful subject .The problem with Stat Mech compared to other discipline is that differnt text books have approached it in a different way...
