I have a project coming up that will require some photography. And I have been an aggressive non-photographer my whole life. So, somewhat reluctantly, Ive been forced to learn a little. I bought an inexpensive Nikon -- not quite a point-and-shoot, but not nearly a SLR -- at WM a few days ago, and will be taking some photos to get the feel for how it is (poorly) done. Im probably going to ask Santa [Hi! Patti Cosner] for a (reasonably inexpensive) SLR camera to do the final work. But I decided that Id better figure out how not to take pictures of my own thumb w/ a cheap camera first, lest the $ spent be a total waste. And I owe much to my sister-in-law Laura Farris Austin, who is a fine photographer and has helped me understand how to think about buying equipment.
