I have a question, and its a serious speculation. I have noticed--or at least I believe--that theres a group of British actors that is not matched by any group of American actors in their versatility and command of performing. Anthony Hopkins may epitomize the group (I seriously think Sir Anthony could play Snow White if he chose--and perhaps several of the dwarves as well). But the group certainly includes John Gielgud, Alec Guinness, Helen Mirren, Judy Dench-- I could go on, but you get the idea. American actors of their stature tend to play, umm, well, themselves. Jimmy Stewart played the same character every time, as did Henry Fonda, John Wayne--Im not denigrating their work. They were fine. Just not very versatile. Do British actors have different training? Do our actors have little training? Or am I totally wrong here? (BTW, there are Brits who play the same part every time as well; Sean Connery comes to mind. Just asking here.)
