I have a rant ... Did anyone read the article in todays paper re: landscaping of the old Maxway/City Trends lots? I simply cannot wrap my head around spending $200K on a temporary green space. Yes, Deron McCormick said *when* a hotelier is found, they will reuse all of the greenery. Well, its gotta be well cared for and survive first. Second, the demo (according to the article) was comparable in cost to the landscaping project ... now were at $400K. It also said the city acquired the properties in 2012. How? Imminent domain? Were they purchased? If purchased, better add that cost in as well. Were easily talking more than half a million dollars of Sumter residents money for some temporary grass and trees? In the hopes of securing a hotel so it can all be torn back out?? This is one of the most ludicrous things I have happened upon ... I feel a little like Rod Serling should start talking any minute. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
