I have a reputation for loving certain forms of mass media too much and its true. I am a film and tv geek with an exuberant love of obscure, bizarre, silly or cheezy pop culture. Some of my friends will use my appreciation for a thing as a signifier that it sucks. That stings a bit. Even my fellow film geeks will say things like, I liked your description of the thing better than the thing itself. I love how much you love movies. I wish I could see movies the way you do. But heres the thing... I hate watching shit alone. I became a film and tv geek in the first place because I had a very lonely childhood and watching movies and tv shows, immersing myself in narratives, was a way of filling the emptiness. A succor for an abject solitude. And every time I love a thing, try to share it, and fail utterly to impress the object of my attempt at connection with the shiny little bauble of pop culture that so impressed or moved me, I die a little inside.
