I have a special memory of a very special man who changed my life forever. His name is Avery Julian Wallace. (A. J.) His daughter, Nancy W Baker, and her mother Ernestine, had a huge impact on my life. Mr. Wallace hired me when I was 18. I had a scholarship to Roane State but my parents would not let me go. So I put on my best dress, high heeled shoes, and Nancy said gloves, and went job hunting. A. J. Wallace and Nancy were the best bosses I ever had. He was delightful and taught me so much about how to treat customers. His brother Jim who was father to Jim Wallace, also taught me how to save money, to find humor in situations, and to love unconditionally. I wish I could remember their stories. They knew everyone in town and they were highly respected. If you remember them please comment here. I would love to honor their memory.
