I have been a football fan specifically a Cushing Bearkat football - TopicsExpress

I have been a football fan specifically a Cushing Bearkat football fan for most of my life. The first games I remember going to were at the old football field where the old baseball and softball fields are today. I remember there was a rope fence made of black cord that looked like the ropes of a boxing ring to me. When a player would get hurt, I saw more than one moma part those ropes like the red sea and go right out on that field to see about their babies. I have always had favorites, and Im sure Ill miss a few but these are the ones that come to mind. I loved watching Dicky Gresham, Mike Nichols, Rex Neil, Eddie and Danny Ivy, and Richard Fenton. I remember Richard Fenton breaking an arm or wrist and having a splint that to my three or four year old eyes looked for all the world like a spatula. I guess the next team that I really remember, because I went through a twirler/cheerleader phase in which I lived to watch Joan Gresham, Reta Davis, Rose Tipps, Rita (Cant think of her last name but Marcus Andersons mom) Linda Wade, Cathy Smith, Kathy Ivy, Debbie Collier, Becky Rawlinson, and many more, is the team Cody Allen, Tuff Ivy, Billy McCarley, Kent Smith, and Kelly Jones, played on. I think we actually beat Alto that year. I loved watching them play and loved watching Allison Allen, Cindy Lawson, Donna Goldsberry, Mary Evelyn Allen, Patti Adkins, Dee Ann Gibbs, Lea Ann Greenwood, and many others twirl. I was at the game when Andy Gamble broke his neck and miraculously was walking down the halls at school on Monday. I remember Roger Anderson giving a pep talk at a pep rally that would rival any motivational speech in any sports movie all set to Paul Wallaces little Datsun blaring Another One Bites the Dust at the gym doors. I think he even moon walked at one point. I loved to watch Lance Crisp, Richard Whitaker, and Chuck Gresham play. I dont have many football memories for several years because I started dating Dani, and we didnt go to football games. I know I missed some good football during those years. I have heard my daddy talk about a trick play in which John Smith Allen scored so many times I forget I didnt actually see it. I think we went to the playoffs during that time and beat Alto again too. When Daric started to school, he wanted to go to the games, and he didnt have to twist my arm. I remember the passing game of Brian Nichols, Jason Davis, and Brandon Gresham, and it was Kris Williamson that snapped the ball to get things going. I also loved watching Leonard Davison, Cody Corley, and Jared LoStracco. I know Im forgetting some good stuff, but the next team that really had my heart included Jacob Beck, Josh Neill, Heath Pruitt, Jesse Arreguin, David Dee, Austin Cade, Ryan Parrish, CD Husbands, Terrence Tipps, Marcus Anderson and Victor Cruz. I will never forget the fight at Tenaha. If I hadnt been half dead with bronchitis, I might have been tempted to climb that fence too. Dani reminded me that I was not wearing a helmet, so we spirited Daric to safety. If life gave you instant replays, I would love to see Hunter Smith score that touchdown again, and I would love, love to have one more season with Daric, Tyler, Jimmy Joe, Keith Minter, Wade Minter, JR Arreguin,Jacob McGinnis, Timbo Miller, Cord Cruz, Caleb Davis, Jimmy Joe, Justin Doles, Jordy Gaddis, Jake Hunter, Jake Nugent Gresham, Thomas Simmons, and Taylor Weitzel, Dedan, Jessie Williamson, Trey Davis, Lane Williams, Colton Duckett, Brian Lopez, Mickey Husbands, and Waterbug. I know Ive forgotten someone. It was not intentional - just wanted to honor my favorite Bearkats of all time. Yep, remembering Jasun Fitzgerald, Kelon Fitzgerald, Ray Jackson, and Nick Reeves. Hoping to follow this years Bearkats all the way to the playoffs. Feel free to add your favorite players. Theyre probably mine too. Forever a Bearkat Forever a Family.
