I have been conditioned to fear police *of any race* but especially white police officers my entire life---by my father who was both a military and civilian police officer all while two of my paternal uncles were police officers---one who retired from the force and the other killed on duty. Yet, in a time before YouTube videos of brutality and unjust institutional discrimination, and before a Rodney King tape showed up, and before baiting the police on camera armed with a certain level of privilege and legal jargon became activism for young white college - aged men, I was conditioned to fear those who could CHOOSE to exercise their own belief of supremacy and lawlessness on me---as as means of trying to save my life. That is prejudice: pre-judgement. -isms are about supremacy. We must learn to separate and analyze the two if we are to overcome our walls based on race, but we cannot ignore the foundation of our pre-judgements and effectively discuss a means to end ignorance and hatred.
