I have been considering the situation of shunning compared to unfriending and/or blocking on FB. Over the year I have seen many accusations of someone who has unfriended or blocked another, and been accused of acting like the Watchtower Society when it disfellowships a person and shuns them. Rather than telling people what to think, I will propose a series of questions, and let each person decide for themself what they think. If you have been unfriended or blocked, ask yourself: Do you have a friendship with the person in real life that has also ended? Does your online friendship have the hallmarks of a real life friendship: private conversations with each other, knowledge of personal information and concern about every day details of each others life? Has the person who has blocked you encouraged all your joint friends to also block or ignore you? Did you both gain something from the online friendship before it was terminated? Was it a give and take relationship? Have you lost out financially from the termination of the online friendship? Is the other party missing out on friendship and mutual support by blocking you?
