I have been dreading posting this but little Gabby ran away 7 days ago. She had been locked up in the spare room for over 3 weeks, and seemed to be happy and making a little progress. There is a big gap under that bed, as it has springs, and I had made a garden for her under there by bringing her plants and flowers regularly and hanging some of them on the springs. She had a soft little bed under there and I took her lots of treats and I always crawled in slowly and miaowed to her and often flee asleep on the carpet allowing her time to see that I was not going to grab her. Someone opened the window and I have really been hoping she will come back, but the food remains untouched under there, despite the window staying open and the door closed so that she is safe from the dogs We are close to an area with a little stream and lots of tall trees and so much bird life, the noise of birdsong here is incredible. So I feel she has chosen a wild life in Nature and doesnt want to be part of a family. I am sad about it, but I had wondered from the beginning whether we, as humans, have the right to insist that an animal who is terrified of humans is meant to be forced to live with us. I have certainly shown her an example of humans who are kind, but after a year in a factory and 6 months in a cage, perhaps the environment here in Nature is preferable to her. She has been spayed and chipped, but...ahhh sigh...I just hope she is ok...my dogs get locked into my bedroom with me at night, so she has the run of the house if she wants to come back...I dont think there is anything more for me to do. I am going to go back to Animal anti cruelty and this time will take tame cats that actually want a home...
