I have been living in Maine for 16 years. My dad has not once come to visit, which hurts at times but the fact is I was always a mess, I was either living with someone on their couch or I was minutes away from incarceration. I have always known good things are not easy to get. It takes hard work and sacrifice. I was never willing to go that all or nothing attitude with changing my life. For the last 19 months I have been transforming so much that my dad, brother and sister finally drove three hours to visit me and my new family. I looked over at my dad, he smiled to himself then he said seeing you happy make me filled with joy. The moral of this story is my dad is proud of me. For the first time in a long time I am also proud of myself.
