I have been studying backdrops for dogs for about three years. At first I was following the so called best dog photographers in the USA. Many of them use white or light colors. However, after awhile I felt that the light backgrounds competed with the dog. Also many lenses will produce flare from the reflected light. Amanda Jones is considered one of the best and has done many Bark magazine covers. There is also Michael Brian and Sharon Montrose. You can look up their web sites. However, over the past year I have discovered the work of eastern European dog photographers. There work is several orders of magnitude better than us Americans. In fact I consider their work works of art. The best in the world is likely Tanya Kozlovsky. 500px/KOFEstudio Elke Vogelsang ( 500px/Wieselblitz ) has recently become popular but uses more close ups with extreme wide angle perspective. However her dark background portraits are still her best. If you look at my portfolio in my artificial light portraits gallery you will see that the white backdrop shots look washed out just like Amanda Jones work, but I dont charge thousands of dollars to come to your house and your pets photos.
