I have been thinking a lot about dad today, so thats my cue to share lol Where should we go today? We will head to the east coast, New York City, 2006. Dad and I were invited to play at Lincoln Center for their music celebration encompassing all of Lincoln Center, sponsored by Mayor Bloomberg. We were invited and so we caught the long direct flight and stayed in the financial district. We had one of the smaller stages playing a morning set and an evening set. The memorable moment of the first show was at the end of our set right before the last song, dad saw some school kids in the back and dad went up to the mic and asked Where you all from? The kids yelled back Harlem! Then dad responded, Aloha, we have a song just for you guys coming right up. then he turned to me and said Sir Duke I was lucky enough at the time to learn it from Herb Ohta Jr and dad saw it was fitting to play for the kids. So we played and they started dancing (and even singing along) it was fantastic. That trip was memorable, it was one of the few times dad wanted to sight-see, after almost 10 years of traveling with him we never saw a city together until then. So we met up with our friend Andrew Wang and his wife who took us to Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, Ed Sullivan Theater, 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Center, We visited the Gugenheim Museum, MODA, and passing by Carnegie Hall. Then at night we went back to Times Square and met up with Darin Leong for dinner. Those were some great times. Never had sandwiches for breakfast as we all hit Katz Delicatessen, wow took us couple days to finish lol. Dad saw the size of the sandwiches and just went Yeah! lol And then we moved hotels and stayed on Broadway, as were walking down the street dad told me Remember you recorded NYC Song? Now you really are walking down broadway. I couldnt help but laugh. I remember there were still a lot of things dad wanted to do. So Im gonna pick up where he left off and check them off the best I can one by one. Love you dad, Aloha ke Akua - God is Love
