I have been thinking recently about how best to work and communicate with people who are attached to unnecessary levels of tension. We all are, but those who are stuck in the mindset that any movement in a martial arts context must be strong, fast and directed towards defeating or winning against the attacker. The proverbial bull in a china shop. It has occurred to me, these people may have never experienced relaxed movement. They may have seen it, experienced it working against them, KNOW the idea up in their heads, but have never FELT it within themselves. They have not REALIZED it is an option for them. (see lecture on the difference between knowing, understanding, and realizing) I saw this video, originally posted by Emmanuel Manolakakis and it illustrated for me the point that people need to realize for themselves that they have options. One option which is important is the nature of our movements in a martial arts (most) context. It is best if it is NOT directed towards defeating or winning against an attacker but rather move to understand the attacker, to be fully present and aware. Move in such a way that allows you to survive. The defeating and winning come about as an end result and do not need to be focused on as the goal. They take care of themselves. I may have not made my point very well here and really welcome comments and feedback about what I have written and/or the video. Thanks.... Lloyd https://youtube/watch?v=PZBtciOLkSM
