I have been trying to find balance between my life as Artist and Communicator of Ideas and as Socio-Political-Spiritual Activist. My love for Poetry, Visual, Musical and Other Arts is immense, yet I often question Arts effectiveness in shifting power-lines or Transforming Mindsets. Yes I know that Great Artists have moved mountains universally, appealing to the conscience and psychology of a wayward humanity, but I often lament the way many artists choose to remain untainted or disaffected by political or social-activism - and as I contemplate the impact of the film Miners Shot Down* and as I re-read the journal Amandla (SAs new progressive magazine standing for social justice) Issue No.26/27 September 2012, with its focus on Mining (Mining: Our Wealth, Our Poison) I wonder how many Artists have chosen to speak Truth to Power, and how many remain oblivious or even aloof???
