I have been trying to keep a certain puddle hydrated between rain storms to give some tadpoles a chance to survive. If the water level gets too low, they begin digging deep wormholes in the mud, similar to an ant nest, to trap the water. As the water dries up, they swim down into the worm holes to stay hydrated until the next rain (or bucket of water) comes their way. It is amazing how these young larval stage critters take care of themselves. Just like Sam Neil said in Jurassic Park, Life finds a way.
