I have been very careful not to interject myself into the politics of the City of Detroit nor the Detroit Police Department since my retirement in 2012. I love the city, its residents and most of all my colleagues in blue (past, present, and future). Chief James Craig just reached the milestone of one year as the DPD Chief and I am very excited about the reductions in crime that have been reported under his leadership. With that said one of the critical components to sustaining the positive trajectory under the Chiefs leadership is continuity in leadership. I take Mayor Duggan at his word that he wants the Chief to remain in place well beyond the tenure of the Emergency Manager. The city and its residents have a unique opportunity to not let politics dictate who sits in the Chiefs chair. Chief Craig I publicly acknowledge your success; pray for your continued success and most importantly encourage the people of Detroit to reinforce to the Mayor that the department needs your steady hand at the wheel. Consistency in leadership that is producing the right results is critical for the DPDs continued success. Kudos to the men and women in blue that are carrying out the Chiefs agenda.
