I have deeply reflected on the greatest thing that has ever happened to mankind: the death of the son of the sovereign Lord on the cross some 2000 years ago. Christ’s death accomplished six core purposes (borrowing from Matt Perman’s exposition) each of which came at a great cost to Him and a great gain for me and mankind: Expiation The removal of our sin and guilt. Christ’s death removes — expiates — our sin and guilt. The guilt of our sin was taken away from us and placed on Christ, who discharged it by his death. We are there free from any condemnation and have overcome the power of sin. We have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness (Romans 6: 18). This truth has set us free from all oppression from sin. The scriptures says in John 8 32 that we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. Propitiation Expiation refers to the removal of our sins, propitiation refers to the removal of God’s wrath. Propitiation is not simply a sacrifice that removes wrath, but a sacrifice that removes wrath and turns it into favor. God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Dont you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah--how he appealed to God against Israel: (Romans 11:2). Hebrews 2:17 says that Christ made “propitiation for the sins of the people” and 1 John 4:10 says “in this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”. Repent ye therefore of your sins, accept Christ and make meaningful HIS love demonstrated through HIS agonizing death and be assured that the wrath for our sins is turned into unlimited and undeserved favour in the sight of God. Reconciliation Whereas expiation refers to the removal of our sins, and propitiation refers to the removal of God’s wrath, reconciliation refers to the removal of our alienation from God. We are therefore back to our royalty. We reign again with Christ as join heirs of the heavenly throne. Reject accusations from Men and from the devil. Because of our sins, we were alienated – separated — from God. Christ’s death removed this alienation and thus reconciled us to God. Reconciliation is holistic. ie, complete reunion. Let us therefore be glad that contrary to devils plan to keep us perpertually distant from God so we can be manipulated, nothing can separate us from the Love of GOD revealed through the agonizing death of Christ. Redemption A price that is paid to deliver someone from captivity is called a “ransom.” This ransom is what was needed to bail us out of the captivity of sin in which we found ourselves. To say that Christ’s death accomplished redemption for us means that it accomplished deliverance from our captivity through the payment of a price. The price herein was not in terms of money, blood of animals, BUT the blood of the LAMB of God. There are three things we had to be released from: the curse of the law, the guilt of sin, and the power of sin. Christ redeemed us from each of these. We are now free to live to righteousness. Our redemption from the power of sin is thus the basis of our ability to live holy lives: “We have have been bought with a price; therefore lets glorify God in our bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:20) as instruments of righteousness. Each time we consciously sin lets us remember THE CONSEQUENCE IS HeBREWS 10:26. Let us therefore live with this consciousness so we don’t invalidate the worth and the value of that high price paid for our release Defeat of the Powers of Darkness By the death, He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him” (Colossians 3:15). Satan’s only weapon that can ultimately hurt people is unforgiven sin. This weapon was taken away from Satan. Paul says in Colossians 2:13-14 “having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross”. What delineate the believer as a model of power, courage and victory is the unshaken faith that He is more than a conquerer and that he can do all things through Him who strengthened and that Greater is He that is in him than he that is in the world. And he Did All of This By Dying As Our Substitute Christ accomplished all of the above benefits for us by dying in our place – that is, by dying instead of us. We deserved to die, and he took our sin upon him and paid the penalty himself. Isaiah says, “he was pierced through for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities . . . the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on him” (Isaiah 53:5-6). In my reflections about this death and its benefits to me and mankind, I simply am renewed and strengthened to live for him in anticipation of the Glory about to be revealed in his second coming. Live with this consciousness and NEVER SUCCUMBED TO THE TEACHINGS OF THIS WORLD that veils this TRUTH MANY OTHERS AND INCREASINGLY LEADING MANY ASTRAY. PAUL WARNS IN COLOSSIANS 2: 8 (See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ) Sing the attached song with me and may the power of the lord unveil the mystery of this truth into our inner conscious heart https://youtube/watch?v=sQeIGbKqiw8
