I have found, that as a bird owner, the quirky things I do solely for the entertainment of my parrot would certainly earn me a one way ticket to the loony bin if I were seen doing these things in public. For instance, I wave around any number of inanimate objects, pretending they have a life of their own. Why? Because I have a little Green Cheek Conure that thinks attacking those objects and chasing them away from me is the best game in the world. I dance with silverware. Yes, I dance very enthusiastically with eating utensils (primarily spoons), while humming or whistling my own music, because the little birdie on my shoulder gets all excited and starts dancing, too! I am also capable of making very shrill, birdlike screeches. I only know this because when my little Green Cheek friend makes an incredibly ear piercing squawk, instead of trying to keep him quiet, I retort with my own deafening squawk. Then the, “Who can make the most annoying noise,” contest begins. My strange antics may someday get me thrown into a white padded cell, but I have one happy little conure at home, and that’s the only thing that matters.
