I have friends in law enforcement who have earned my trust, my respect, my support, and if necessary, my protection! They are people who CAN be trusted with WAYYY too much authority and little if any accountability. I share a bond of brotherhood with many of them. These are people I could trust with my life. For the sake of brevity, I’ll call them ‘our cops.’ Other lawmen have pulled me over, and projected the image of an ‘our cop.’ They were professional, fair or more than fair, polite, and efficient. They left me with the impression that they, too, were people we want in positions of authority. Some of them have issued me citations. They showed not a trace of Tiny Dog Syndrome. MOST of my interactions with law enforcement have left me with the thought, “I’ll protect that cop if I can.” I WANT to trust and respect law enforcement. Town tamin’ supercops like those we see in THIS video make that a lot more difficult! thelibertarianrepublic/officer-brutalizes-entire-family-camera/#.Ui_YhNKTh9Y These are the yahoos that ‘our cops’ want to see cashiered from their profession, but ‘our cops’ DARE NOT help us get that done. To do so would result in their being harassed, ostracized, and would in many cases cost them their jobs. Law enforcement is an omerta society. WE DON’T WANT TO LOSE ANY OF ‘OUR COPS!’ How do we protect ‘our cops’ and also protect our friends, our neighbors and our families from the thugs with badges who get all the press? Every two years professional drivers are required to submit to a physical examination to make sure that they are not dangerous to the public. If we are going to empower a man to detain a citizen against his will, issue him the power of life and death in a large caliber with three high capacity magazines, authorize him to use any level of force he chooses, and then insulate him from the consequences of his actions, it is reasonable to require him to submit to periodic mental / emotional health examinations. He should AT THE LEAST be able to honestly and correctly answer all the questions a citizen is asked before he can legally purchase a gun. I’m not suggesting that the officer should fill out a form every two years, but that he meets with someone qualified to accurately assess his mental / emotional state. If he can’t pass the ‘mental,’ he does a different job, e.g. paperwork, so he doesn’t put the public at risk until he CAN pass the test. Safeguards must be put in place to prevent “pencil whipping.” Next, we pass laws at the federal and state levels so EVERY law enforcement agency, municipal, county, state and federal answers to a civilian review board which doesn’t just “make recommendations,” but removes bad cops from law enforcement. Sure, slow it down with appeals and red tape, but keep the process moving forward. Let it take a while to weed out a bad one! Better that than to lose any more of ‘our cops!’ Once a Town Tamer finally loses a law enforcement job as a result of an act of violence on his part, he NEVER gets back into law enforcement. Anywhere. Attempting to do so would be a felony. This CRV would also have the authority to require that the officer in question receive remedial training or submit to a mental / emotional evaluation, reassigning the officer pending the results thereof. No more paid vacations as rewards for questionable shootings. We need statutes and case law reconfirming citizens’ right to videotape police activity, and in most cases require law enforcement to videotape their own actions. This will protect ‘our cops,’ and make it easier to weed out the Town Tamers. If an officer is lazy or incompetent, he can be motivated, retrained, or reassigned to a position where the public isn’t exposed to him. We already have laws to deal with corrupt law enforcement. The public must be protected from those who somehow defeated the selection process. We need to make sure that once a Town Tamer has shown himself to be a clear danger to the community, he / she is forever removed from a position of authority.
