I have got to get this off my chest. What Australians need to understand is this - If it werent for the measures the Rudd Government took to protect our economy during the Global Financial Crisis, Australia would have been in a far worse fiscal position than it finds itself in now. It is widely accepted that Australia - at the time of the last Federal election was one of the strongest economies in the developed world. That is not a fiction - that is a widely reported fact. Ask yourself this - how can the Abbott Government argue it has a budget emergency when it inherited a Triple A - a AAA - credit rated economy from the previous Labor Government? They cant, because the budget emergency doesnt exist. It never existed. The Abbott Government are perpetrating the greatest con job on its citizens in the history of this nation and we are beginning to see the evidence of their fiscal incompetence. Regardless of the superficial personality wars that plagued the ALP in the last term of Government, you cannot argue that the measures they took to shield our economy from the worst effects of the GFC were fiscally irresponsible.
