I have great respect for TV anchors and commentators like Ted - TopicsExpress

I have great respect for TV anchors and commentators like Ted Failon, Julius Babao, Mike Enriquez, Noli De Castro and many others. With that said, I would like to take this opportunity to comment on a recent incident involving a traffic constable of MMDA and a businessman. Apparently, this Traffic Constable was drag and physically hurt by this businessman, but we would not focus on that but instead I would like to look at how public opinion turns out and how it represent our society as a whole. Also we would like to look at how these comments about the incident affect and shape the mentality of our countrymen, particularly those who are among the low income families. The Filipino love the underdogs. This is an establish fact, hence movies that celebrate the triumph of the poor against the rich are some of the most demanded genre. But is it really that all those rich are bad and all those poor are good? Is it a fact that only those who are rich are arrogant? Is it a fact that all poor people are abused? Do we ever ask these questions to ourselves and if so, what conclusion did we arrived at? The notion that rich people are arrogant and abusive of people who are poor, in my humble opinion, was and still is, what keep poor people to being poor. In some part of a low income persons mind, he/she has this urge to earn more, yet because of this mistaken mentality that being rich is a sin, somehow they do not do enough to elevate themselves from their present financial difficulty. Which is a very sad predicament in my concern. Why do we Filipino always thought we cannot have the best of everything? The common thinking that it is better to be poor but happy is what bother me very much. Why? Can you not be both rich and happy? Can you not be both rich and humble? For the past two days, the media has painted a very bad image on people who work so hard for their money, it has created a false accusation that all people who are rich are abusive and arrogant. And it has already pack up enough gunpowder in a virtual powder keg that if ignited, the Los Angeles Riot back in 92 and the recent Missouri Riot and all that it has spawn will look like childs play. Looking at what monstrosity the Typhoone HaiYan (Yolanda) Aftermath has shown us what Filipino gone bad are capable of. I wish, No, I beg, please all you news commentators out there, be responsible and avoid stereotyping. Afterall, we all know most charitable events are hosted by people who can afford. Thank you very much for taking time to read this. #Chatpinoy #Maserati #MMDA
