I have heard that everything thing that happens in our lives is for a reason we dont understand. Yet somethings are so terrible that no matter what the reason there is we say no, no thank you I think that humans have the capacity to designate great tragedy into something that is positive, something to be used. To use and learn things. I used to think of my beloved green bird that I would give anything to protect her and yet she still died. But there seemed no reason for it except for pain. If we can learn nothing else, we can learn to sustain pain. I had a conversation this week with someone who is looking at her death quite squarely and we wondered if we wished to be asleep or awake. But the moment of dying is shrouded in complication and we decided that it wouldnt be our choice anyway so we decided with suppressed mirth not to give it another thought and instead looked back on our long lives and shared that instead. What a fine and wonderful thing to have found this new friendship we have near the end of our lives. For with everything else there is also this brand new life between two people. The ultimate sharing of a friendship. So complete and precious are the joys of my life now that I wonder how it should be paid for. I look within to find it when instead the God within me and without smiles kindly and says as that old TV show said This is your life and so live it. I have been given absolute permission to live in joy from the Creator of all things. All wrong that I have done in my life is forgiven and now I see each new day as a Gift and am full of gratitude. For though I havent the courage to be killed and eaten by a lion for my Faith, I have the courage to face death in anyway. For after all what is death but the doorway to eternity. For none of us find that invisible door not there. But perhaps all things lead to the right door to open, All joy, all pain, all that we are - these are the things that happened to us to make us free to choose. We bought our freedom with every second of our lives.
