I have just turned 30 years old. On this day, my thirtieth birthday, I look back on what is -- basically -- the first half of my life. Its been a hell of a ride. The first eight years were pretty decent. The next eight were hell. The ten that followed I did amazing things. The last four have been an interesting ride. All told, I like who I am and what Ive done. Still, all told, how many people can say that by their 30th birthday they had become eligible for membership in the Screen Actors Guild, been medicated against their will for eight years, had a plea coerced against them falsely, founded a company, been on the front page of the paper, studied with Pulitzer Prize winning playwrights, published a manifesto known by a whole movement, had their work translated into another language, discussed geopolitics with the former EVP of the Council on Foreign Relations, gone on a hunger strike, been committed to a mental hospital, accused their government of treaty violations at the United Nations, saved the Jury Trial and broken a majority-party initiative to reduce the rights of those like them, been on the front page of the paper again (second section), and demonstrated a practice of violating the rights of abused children with mental illness by a major provider and the Department of Social Services itself using a wire recording -- then forcing the government to care. Its been a good life, and there is so much left to do. I look forward to it.
