I have long questioned why the word ‘peak is a slang expression - TopicsExpress

I have long questioned why the word ‘peak is a slang expression of negativity rather than a positive message. However, upon studying Mathematics to degree level I have now come to realise this is due to the following; A peak of a graph, for example that of sinx around x=half pi, obviously has a zero gradient. If the second derivative of the function is ‘negative’ it corresponds to a maximum point, thus a ‘peak’ of the graph. This, I have concluded is why modern day youths have come to use the word ‘peak’ to have negative connotations rather than those of a more positive light. Alex Reed 10/11/14
