I have made a commitment to myself not to post anything personal on social media but this morning I have something to say... AMENDMENT 2 was written for a specific purpose; The medical use of marijuana by a qualifying patient. A patient whom has a medical condition that would ultimately help the quality of life they are living or barely living with. To have a vote of 58% but not be able to pass because to change a constitutional amendment you have to have 60% of the vote is complete bullshit. Granted legalization across the board would be ideal but to deny human beings of something that has been proven to better the quality of life of those suffering is wrong. I have watched my mother suffer, watched her try to swallow down the outrageous amount of pills she has to take to help with her conditions, conditions that with the use of medical marijuana could have cut out some of the over 20+ prescriptions she has to take multiple times a day. Her quality of life could have been changed for the better as she battles to just feel good enough to get out of the bed in the morning, continue her day, attempt to eat with no appetite, and even to try sleeping at night which comes few and far between. My mother is the face of Parkinsons, Lewy Body Dementia (more progressive than Alzheimers), and six sinus syndrome (a rare heart condition) among several other health issues. Our family has counted on this passing as my parents are not ones to go against any laws. Granted it could be found illegally and used but the point of that matter is that it is still illegal and they are law abiding citizens. I am disgusted. I am saddened. I long ago lost faith in a government that was built to protect the citizens, I voted yesterday. I voted as an informed voter on all issues. I voted yesterday on Amendment 2 as an informed voter, one with a first hand experience of what could have been beneficial for the purpose it was intended. My loss of faith in government has now spread to those whom fought against this as well. Watch your loved ones diminish in front of your eyes.. be told that medical marijuana could improve quality of life and then be told no by your government that you can not do so.. Keep shoving those pills that pharmaceutical companies make millions off of down their throats. However a natural plant that goes back in time and even in your bibles is just the devil. I know their are other families that could have benefitted greatly with the passing of this, and my hearts go out to them as well. If you voted no on this particular item yesterday or did not vote at all- shame on you. I hope your family never has to go through what mine and others battle daily. I have lost faith in a society that does not look at the true meaning of something that is truly meant to help those in need. Today is a sad day for Florida. Pat Middleton
