I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I dont trust the site to be secure. It contains so much personal information and social security numbers, etc. But on the other hand, I wonder how many people just collect and never try to get a job, so its at least an incentive to get them to do a good resume. How effective it can be with limited guidance is questionable. And personally, I think that when the DLT workers themselves get into the states EmployRI site, they are going to want to quit their jobs immediately. One day when I was not working, I arrived for one of the required classes and told the woman at the front desk that I had made an appointment online to see a counselor after the class. She said she knew nothing of that feature on the site and asked a co-worker who confirmed that yes, others had done that, too, but, in fact the site wasnt actually connected yet to the counselors with whom the appointments were being made, so they never knew people were signing up with them for the hour visits. But they managed to squeeze me in. I was in disbelief, being a web designer myself. Could the whole thing be any more confusing than it already is? I met some very helpful people at the DLT but they were understandably frustrated with the equipment and functionality of the site. One thing they do well there is hand a load of papers to you every time you walk in. Thankfully, one of those papers was a copy of a copy of a copy of a JobClubRI flyer and I actually read it, thank God! Im not big on cloning, but I think if the DLT just paid to have Steve Colella of JobClubRI cloned about 20 times, he could handle that onslaught with the help of all the organizations that give their time on a regular basis to the club. Thank goodness for Steve and all of JobClubRIs participating companies and club volunteers. You all deserve RIs utmost gratitude.
