I have no plans to move to Australia so this doesnt affect me. Why should I care? Even if you remain in New Zealand, you are affected by Australias policies relating to New Zealand citizens. Australia benefits massively from receiving a steady flow of hard-working New Zealanders, most of whom have been educated and trained at the expense of the New Zealand taxpayer. The problem is that, whilst Australia is happy to benefit from their work and take their taxes, it refuses to give them any support if they fall upon hard times. This means that they are forced to return to New Zealand to receive support from the New Zealand government, despite not having paid taxes in New Zealand for many years. Because of this, everyone in New Zealand is paying higher taxes or receiving fewer government services than they otherwise would.
