I have recently been thinking about the idea that the universe is 13.8 billion years old and that the big bang theory is the essentially the centre point to our existence. I personally do not believe this is true. Let me develop... It is a human trait to try and explain exactly how things are created, and we do it very well to a degree. When it comes to something like the creation of the universe, we have too much to work with, considering there is an infinite amount of possibilities relating to the creation of it. The big bang theory is just one idea that makes sense on our level of understanding. We as humans take on board the idea of time very seriously: Everything must have a beginning and an end, and conceivably develop in a relatively linear way by our understanding. We only perceive this linearity after it has happened, and base our theories upon these patterns. Imagine if time is not quite what we understand it to be, and that calculating it is essentially pointless as it only exists as a concept we have created to explain the development and decay of matter in our physical world. The universe, as we understand it, is a huge physical world, of which I think we have no idea of size, extent or age. Considering that humans have supposedly been around for only 200,000 years, I dont think we can even estimate how long the universe has been around for, due to the fact we dont necessarily understand it beyond what we have effectively fabricated to explain it. In fact, I believe that the universe has been around for an incalculable amount of time, because time is a human concept, and because of that, it does not have any bearing on the age of the universe, as the universe therefore does not necessarily have a beginning , or and end for that. Beyond what we perceive as reality in our physical world, I believe strongly that there is a whole other universe out there, which exists on a separate dimensional level, beyond physical. If this is true, it means that our universe, is not the sole existence as we perceive it, but merely one reality that we experience for an extremely short amount of our perceived time. I believe that we may not have the capacity to understand everything for what it really is, because at the moment, we can only really guess..
