I have remained silent because I didnt know what to say about this mess that wouldnt cause more harm, but when you attack Josh Serum, one of the most ethical, law-abiding, decent, good people I have ever known and who I have known and worked with for years, the gloves are off. This article is complete and total lies. There was no data breach or hacking attempt on Joshs part. The data breaches and (successful) hacking attempts lie squarely in the laps of those affiliated with the current power structure at the SPCA Of Bradley County - TN. The shelter director couldnt even turn on her own computer and Josh was specifically recruited to the board (at its creation) for the purpose of managing the organizations IT structure. He was locked out of the system, and the building, as was everyone else who founded the organization -- unilaterally and with no board permission. The past disputes havent been moved past. The people who said things werent working have been silenced in the hopes that the community will believe a manipulated message of smiley faces and all is well. The people who promised this community a compassionate, progressive county animal control system are not in power and the promises we made cant be kept. And I am so sorry about that, especially for the animals who were entrusted to our care. And I am so sorry that good and decent people continue to be hurt, attacked and lose jobs because of the unethical operations of a small group of people intent on destroying anything that looks like progress in this community. The director cant even provide intake number to the board at monthly meeting but only long reports filled with exclamation points and smiley faces. I am appalled at the audacity of board members who continue to pretend like everything is groovy while the SPCA operates with absolutely no transparency, cant tell the public how many animals are in their care or even the capacity of the shelter, and call for killing animals after the people of this community have donated and worked to create a no kill shelter. The only reason the shelter is at capacity, whatever we might define that to be since the director cant give us an answer, is because the director refuses to operate a transparent system and let volunteers in who could get animals adopted and into rescue. What does she have to hide? ... Slowly but surely the SPCA is alienating, marginalizing and performing character assassinations on anyone who might shine a light on how the organization is operating. This was a dream by a community and a group of people who worked very hard to make it real. It was a dream that could have come true, but the people with the plan are gone, removed and banned. The only way the SPCA will be what it was created to be is under the leadership of a new director and a board that doesnt let its power lie in the hands of one person, who doesnt even show up a meetings, but makes unilateral decisions that all obey.
