I have respect for the law enforcement we have here in Shelby County. The recent video now making its rounds all over the world, show some deputies overstepping their rightful bounds of law enforcement. I think the Shelby County Sheriff needs to further their training. Here is some information for you. If they dont have probable cause then shut down all communication with them. The person videoing was in the right for asking the right questions. As soon as the deputy said they were not being detained, the renter/homeowner should have produced their id, said the people that were there were allowed to be there, and should have instructed the deputies to leave immediately. End of story. If the deputies do not leave ask for a supervisor and end all communication with the now trespassing deputies. Like in the video I am providing, if you wish to end the encounter and move on , then do so. Just remember no law enforcement of any sorts has the right to just bum rush you and ask for your ID unless........you are driving your car or after you ask , Am I being detained or am I free to go?they say you are being detained. Then you should be quiet and have your attorney present for any other questions. PERIOD.
